Terms of Service
Effective date: 19 May 2026
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using BobbyOnTheBeat ("the Service") at bobbyonthebeat.org, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and registered accounts. We may update these Terms from time to time; continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
2. Description of the Service
BobbyOnTheBeat provides an interactive map and analytical tools built on official UK crime data sourced from data.police.uk. The Service is intended for informational purposes only — for residents wishing to understand crime patterns in their area, and for property professionals generating crime data reports. We are not affiliated with any police force or government body.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
4. Account registration
Certain features require you to create an account using Google OAuth. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised use at hello@bobbyonthebeat.org. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law;
• Attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the Service in bulk;
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its servers;
• Impersonate any person or entity;
• Use the Service to harass, threaten, or harm others;
• Upload or transmit malware, viruses, or other harmful code;
• Use automated tools to access the Service in a manner that imposes an unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
We reserve the right to terminate access for any user who violates these rules.
6. Crime data
Crime data displayed on the Service is sourced from the UK police open data API (data.police.uk) and is made available under the Open Government Licence v3.0. This data is provided "as is" by police forces. We make no warranty as to its accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose. Data may be subject to reporting delays, reclassification, or omissions by the relevant police force.
7. PDF reports
Business users may generate and download PDF crime data reports ("Reports"). You may use Reports for legitimate professional purposes such as property listings, client advice, or internal research. You must not misrepresent Reports as official police statistics or use them in a manner that could mislead recipients. Reports are generated on demand and reflect data available at the time of generation.
8. Intellectual property
All content on the Service — including the software, design, branding, and original text — is owned by or licensed to us and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our written permission. Crime data sourced from data.police.uk is licensed under the Open Government Licence and credit is given accordingly.
9. Subscription and payment
Some features of the Service require a paid subscription. Subscription terms, pricing, and billing details are presented at the point of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date. Refunds are handled in accordance with your statutory rights under UK consumer law. Contact hello@bobbyonthebeat.org for billing enquiries.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from viruses. Use of the Service and reliance on any crime data is at your own risk.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £50, whichever is greater. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
12. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, with reasonable notice where practicable. You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us at hello@bobbyonthebeat.org. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will do so.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time by posting updated Terms on this page with a new effective date. Material changes will be communicated to registered users by email or in-app notification. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
